Casino dress code, smoking and paying

What the casinos in this register say about what to wear, whether you can smoke and how you can pay — in their own words. Tap beside any rule to read the words it came from, the page and the date we read it.

There is no one rule for Canada. No law we quote says what to wear at a casino, and the 17 rules below are not alike — some name a garment, most do not. Several are set by one room rather than by the casino: a restaurant, a show venue, the high-limit area. So this page does not give advice; it lists what each casino states, in the casino’s own words, and says plainly where a casino states nothing.

What to wear

17 of the 103 casinos in this register state a rule about clothing, and 4 of those are a rule of one room inside the casino rather than of the casino. The other 86 casinos say nothing about it on the pages we read, which is not the same as having no rule — ask before you go if it matters.

  • 5shirts and shoes at the very least
  • 6dress appropriately, without saying what that means
  • 1only what they turn away
  • 1a code in effect, without saying what it is
  • 4a rule for one room, not the whole casino

Of those 17, 6 casinos name clothing they turn away: clothing showing violence, or a violent or criminal group (5), profanity or offensive images (1) and revealing clothing (1).

Smoking

27 of the 103 casinos in this register say something about smoking; 76 casinos say nothing. Where a rule is about one room, the hotel or the lot rather than the floor — by its own words or by the page the casino put it on — it is grouped as such rather than read as a rule for the whole building.

Paying

21 of the 103 casinos in this register say something about how you can pay, and the rules are not comparable with one another: a casino’s words are often about one counter — its kiosks, its machines, the gaming floor, its box office, its restaurants, its parking, its night market, one of its restaurants, its group bookings and its bingo hall rather than about the whole place. Each is below in the casino’s own words, and where the words or the page they stand on name the counter, the row says so. Where the row says nothing, the casino named nothing: read it as that one sentence, not as the price list of the building.

How this page is put together

Every rule comes from a casino’s own website, quoted word for word, with the date we read the page. The line beside a casino’s name is that quote and nothing else — not our summary of it. A heading is our own statement about the casino, and it is decided by the words of the quote and by the page they stand on: a rule printed on the page of one restaurant, one show venue or the high-limit area is filed as a rule of that room, not of the casino.

A casino appears only where we hold a quote. Silence in the counts above means we found nothing on the pages we read, not that the casino has no rule. Bags, phones and photography have no section here because we hold no quoted rule about them — several casinos do state such rules, and until each is quoted with its page and date, they are not ours to print.
