How pages reach you
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, a network that handles every request before it reaches our server. Cloudflare therefore sees your IP address, your browser details and the page you ask for, and it carries what you send through a form on this site; its own privacy policy describes what it keeps.
Server logs
Our server records each request it receives: the IP address, browser details, the address requested, the page that linked to it and the time. The log is kept in a few files that are overwritten in turn as it grows, so older entries disappear on their own. We use it only to keep the site running and to deal with abuse.
Stored in your browser
If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage and never sent to us. “Casinos near me” and “Open now” ask your browser for your location and work out distances on your device; your location is not sent anywhere.
The Game plan tool keeps your plan — money and time limits, start time, province and timer — in your browser’s local storage while “Remember this plan” is ticked, which it is by default; untick it and the plan is deleted. The income field there is not stored at all. Its reminders appear on the page itself; notifications in other tabs are shown by your own browser, and only if you allow them. The other tools work on your device and store nothing: the date of birth in “Can I get in?” is neither sent nor saved.
The Academy keeps what you do in each lesson — the practice strip, which answers you gave, which you got wrong and how far through you are — in your browser’s local storage, one entry per lesson, and none of it is sent to us. There is no account and no sign-in, so anyone using this device can see it. The Academy page lists what this device has saved and can export it to a file, restore it from one, or delete all of it.
“Price of an hour”, “How long will it last?”, “House edge”, “Blackjack strategy”, “Streaks”, “Video poker pay table”, “Open now”, “What’s on”, “With a hotel” and “Rewards programs” write what you choose into the page address after the # sign — in the money tools that includes your bet or amount — so that a bookmark or a shared link opens the same answer. Browsers do not send that part of an address to any server, but it stays in your browser history. Choices that are not amounts, such as the table rules in Blackjack strategy, a casino or a province, can be in the address before the #, and like any address they then reach our server log. Video poker pay table works out an unfamiliar pay table and What’s on builds its calendar file in your browser; nothing is sent.
Other services
Venue maps are loaded from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address when a map is shown. Links to Google Maps, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot, venue websites and official sources take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
If you write to us
The contact form sends what you enter — your email address, your name if you give one, the page address and your message — as an email to our mailbox on our own mail server, where it is handled like any email you send us. The program that receives the form keeps no copy of it. To limit abuse, it counts messages from each IP address in memory for up to an hour; the form does not write your IP address down anywhere, though the server log described above records the request itself, as it does for every page, without what you wrote.
Email sent to our address is stored, with your address, in that mailbox, and a copy of every message, except those our spam filter marks as certain spam, is also collected from that mailbox by the site owner’s own account at another email provider, which fetches it over IMAP. We use your message only to answer it and to correct the site.
If you report a mistake
“Spotted a mistake on this page?”, at the bottom of every page except Contact, sends the address of the page, the part of it you chose, what you wrote, the source link if you add one and your email address if you give one. It arrives as an email in the same mailbox as the contact form and is forwarded to the site owner in the same way; the email also records the time, but not your IP address. Reports are not published anywhere on the site, and we use them only to check and correct the page and, if you left an address, to reply.
The program that receives reports keeps no copy of them. To enforce its limits — from one connection, one report about the same page an hour and no more than six attempts to send an hour and twenty a day — it keeps your IP address in memory for up to a day after your last attempt, together with the pages you reported in the past hour. For a day it also keeps a one-way fingerprint of each report, not its text, so that the same report sent twice reaches us once. None of this is written down anywhere. The server log records the request itself, as for every page, without what you wrote.
Where this is kept
Our web and mail server is located outside Canada, and so is the mailbox that receives the forwarded copies. The server logs described above and any message or report you send us, through a form or by email, are therefore stored outside Canada.
